The Perth Garden Festival 2022 was held in October at Langley Park, along the foreshore in the Perth CBD.
Originally planned for May, the festival was delayed to Spring due to an COVID outbreak. This brought some challenges for us, as spring is not only our busiest time of year for production in our nursery, it is unfortunately just after winter, the most difficult growing season for succulents.
However, we are nothing but persistent, and we saw the opportunity to expand our plant ranges to include Kaye's original love, cottage perennials.
"We can have spring flowers!" I remember her yelling out in excitement!
Our theme for this year was STEAM PUNK! We always like to up-cycle and re-invent props and items we already have. A good friend of ours gifted a chimenea to us a few years back, and we saw the opportunity to give him a make-over steam punk style. We called him Freddie, as he is 'Under Pressure'!! We rescued some copper piping and valve gauges from landfill to attach to Freddie, and filled him up with various varieties of succulents, including Aeonium, Echeveria and Sempervivum.
We were very honoured to be awarded 'Best in Show Exhibitor'.
We used the water mister from last year's Cauldron display to give the affect of steam coming out the top:
